The Importance of Rest and Relaxation as a Freelancer
When you're working for yourself, taking time out of your day to rest and relax can be difficult.
I know that I and many others wake up in the morning and immediately check our emails on our phones, before we've even washed our faces or had a cup of coffee. Since many of us are quite busy in our daily lives, with the demands of different clients as well as business admin pulling us in different directions, carving out time to truly rest can be difficult.
Even if you're having a glass of wine with friends one evening or reading a nice book under a blanket, you might have those nagging thoughts at the back of your head - "Will that client require revisions?", "I mustn't forget to invoice for those extra hours", "I need to receive the feedback by tomorrow, or I won't have time to complete the edits by the deadline"...
It can be hard to truly switch off when you're running your own business, because it all stands and falls with you and your own effort. But that's one of the reasons why it's so important to take some time off every once in a while - to let yourself relax and forget all thoughts of work.
This holiday season, why not try to fully take a break from work for at least a couple of days. Turn your computer off, leave your phone in the other room, and focus on enjoying the peaceful, quiet Christmastime.
Enjoy time with your family and friends, without letting thoughts of work and other commitments disrupt these beautiful moments with the people you love. You'll be all the better for having had a little holiday when you're back to work with a fresh mindset and renewed energy next year.
Happy holidays to you and yours!
