Do You Have A Side Hustle?
There's been a lot of talk about side hustles over the last few years. People who are employed full-time, as well as freelancers, self-employed and casual workers have created small side businesses to make extra money or monetise a hobby or interest of theirs. While I didn't ever think I would have a side hustle myself, I created one last year – and so far, I'm really enjoying it!
For those that aren't familiar, a side hustle is a small, additional project alongside your main job or source of income. For a lot of people, this could be selling handmade items, selling art or design pieces, blogging or starting a YouTube channel. A side hustle can earn you extra money on the side, and it's also a great way to monetise something you enjoy doing in your spare time.
My side hustle came about out of my interest in vintage clothing. I've always loved vintage clothes and personal style, and after Marie Kondo'ing my extensive wardrobe during the first Covid-19 lockdown here in the UK, I found so many amazing clothes and shoes that I simply wasn't wearing enough. Whether they didn't fit me, weren't my style anymore, didn't go with anything else I have or just wasn't getting enough wear, I rounded up 100+ items that I needed to get rid of. These were high-quality, great vintage pieces that could bring someone a lot of joy, so I didn't want to just throw them out. So the idea came about to start a little vintage shop – and that's exactly what I did. Serendipity Vintage was born, and in less than a year, I feel my shop has grown so much.
So far, I've made about 200 sales, and out of those orders, I've received 98% 5-star reviews. I'm so happy to have been able to give these clothes that were collecting dust in my wardrobe a second lease at life! Like I said, I have a real passion for cool vintage clothes, and the concept of reusing is really important to me. It makes me so happy to know that these items will be loved and worn again, and managing my little shop also brings me a lot of joy - it allows me to be creative and connect with other vintage lovers around the world.
You're welcome to check out my little shop, and if you're thinking of starting your own side hustle, I'd really recommend that you take the plunge!
